Title: NEW CS:Source Server.
Post by: Balaso on April 17, 2005, 01:59:46 AM
We have a new CS:Source server! Please join us @ 70.84.21.36:27041
Please note the port number is NOT the standard port. Make sure you put the correct one. We will be getting all the sK membes setup with admin and will be adding maps to the rotation. For now the maps are standard issue cs maps.

We also have server stats which can be found at the link below.
Server stats: http://65.103.113.159/~u_css_pb_376hls/ (http://65.103.113.159/~u_css_pb_376hls/)

Please, join us on the server. Contact me if there are any server problems or questions.

rgr, as usual, I got tired of dealing with idiots on servers and not being able to do anything about it. Now that I see enough people playing again, I don't mind paying for a server. I'm setting up maps now so email me any suggestions to:
admin<AT>balaso.com
(replace <AT> with @)

I will also be setting up admin. I have the admin list from the old server so I should have everyones steam id's already.

((cries))

Balaso I love you!!!! Not in a joking/passing way, no, I truly love this man!!!

I'm so happy we have a server server server!

Yeah last night we were called a cheating clan, and I earlier that evening got banned off another server at which I had become a regular.

And good choice with HLStats, I think they show accuracy unlike PsychoStats with Source.

Btw I invited Bri Rock to join sK CSD and sent him the same info Jeebus shared with me when I joined. If there's anyone I need to contact about that please let me know but otherwise I'll be his point of contact in his recruitment period.
Thanks so much for the server!

Woot Woot!!  Balaso has selected quite a stable server....  played on it for a big chunk of the weekend (since its been ours) with not a single crash or disconnect.  The map selection also provides for keeping it interesting....

Gahh I love having our own server again....  Y'all need to kill foursci more!! He's getting entirely too close to my spot on the rankings and he seems to be quite resistant to my hacks!!  hehe....

THANKS B!!!  *kissie kissie*

I'm bumping this part of one of my post. Please send me maps you want to play.

Impolite, I would really like some suggestions from you. I know your not too wild about the custom ones, so please let me know what you like so I can hook you up.

Everyone, please, let me know if I am missing your favorite maps so I can install them.

Still cant get fy_kingofthehill.bsp to work, keeps crashing the server. As soon as I have it fixed I'll add it.

be careful about too many customs.
maybe have them ON the server.. but not in the regular rotation.

too many customs can really hurt the server in getting regular members playing.

*edit*

where is the server located as well?

Of the custom maps I find I enjoy Mindmaze, 16Fighter, paintball, 1337_Assault_11ntybillion or whatever it is with the glass windows in the warehouse roof and the snipe roost above the warehouse... Ask blitz for it, he knows which one I'm talking about.  There's a multi-level glass floor map that blitz was telling me about with snipe towers around it that also sounded fun.  Then, most of the normal maps are good.  Office, prodigy, aztec, italy, dust2, chateau, etc.  Compound can be fun with a certain number of people.  Rats is great fun for low grav shottie wars.  The pistolsX maps are good...

Here's what I don't like: Maps that are laggy(like that ak-colt map or even dust), maps that are grossly one-sided(normal cs_assault), and maps that rely very little on skill or tactics (like awp map with no chance to get cover before the shooting starts).

Oh, de_train also falls on my do not play list because of the ridiculous number of campsites.  If the t's have half a clue on that map, the ct's have no chance.

Also, seeing that Blitz is replying to this post three feet from me, I must add that he is a fag.

Gah...Imp is such a whiner....cheese anyone?  You are a high-maintenance biatch Imp!!   :D

I think the glass tower map that Imp mentioned is called Glass_Tower, but don't quote me on that till I have a chance to check my maps folder.

I'm afraid I'm gonna hafta agree with Flu on that point.  Hadn't thought about that particular point.  Thus far, I think we have had pretty decent pub traffic on the nights I've been on and could actually hurt our chances at establishing regulars (potential recruits?) if we leave the map rotation to include the customs.

actually, reviewing the logs, it's seems it's the custom maps that got people to join. However, like Flu said, not all the maps are going on the rotation. They will be on the server so they can be accessed by the admins at will.

Ok sweet.

On train.. we have to have it in the regular rotation, because it will be a CAL map (one of the main ones) and we will have to be good at playing it.

Eventually SK wants to compete in leagues do we not?

I would be much closer but playing all those custom maps shows how reliant I am on map tactics! Just look at your event history and notice how much I show up: http://65.103.113.159/~u_css_pb_376hls/hls...istory&player=2 (http://65.103.113.159/~u_css_pb_376hls/hlstats.php?mode=playerhistory&player=2)
Pretty back and forth...

Regardless, I can DEFINITELY say that playing with sK members again makes for a harder gameplay experience, overall.

Yeah, custom maps DO pull in people. Guys see a map they like and search for servers that have it. There's at least a couple in the rotation that don't belong though.

League play? Yeah Flu we should do that this summer (between semesters is good!). Bri Rock, our newest recruit, is an excellent match player. Darn thing is, while he is at school his ResNet gives him a horrible 600 ping when connecting to CS servers not on the standard 27015 port (ours is 27041). So, come summer, I think league play will be considered.

it's too bad we didn't get all organized earlier, could've competed in CAL this season.. Ahh well.. next time.

I don't personally believe that anyone in the clan besides maybe Bri Rock and possibly foursci are CAL-level material.  We got our asses handed to us most of the time in TWL last year.

I'm not too big on the whole league play thing.  I play for enjoyment/recreation and have little interest in stressing over competitive play.  Nor do I have the time to dedicate to practices and would likely not be able to commit to regular "serious" practice schedules.  This, however, is not to say that I wouldn't be more than happy to assist any team we put together practice anytime I can.  If we get enough people interested and capable of that level of play, I say, sure, why not...

My 2 cents....

One thing, I think we need to throttle back a little. It's good to get excited and plan for the future, but one thing at a time. We can't go from a dead division, straight into CAL-O. We need to set goals, realistic goals. I consider CAL-O a long term goal. I say shoot for it sometime in the mid summer when most people don't have school interfering.

Set some short term goals. Such as

1) Identify regular/consistent players

2) Conduct organized "team building" play sessions.

3) Schedule certain nights to be "de_dust" night or whatever map. Then take time and learn all the maps secrets. i.e. great sniper/counter sniper spots, kill box areas.

4) Bitch, moan, gripe, and complain about one another until it is finally out of everyone's system and won't interfere with team building from then on. (Inner fighting is a normal part of the team building process)

5) Find what works for your team and stick to it. Not all tactics work for all teams.

Once you get some of these short term goals met you will be on track to meet and accomplish the long term goals on schedule.

Yes of course I don't expect us to be ready for league play RIGHT AWAY.. but CAL-O is a very beginner league, and as long as you're a moderate skilled player (ie: 99% of us would be able to compete) we'd do fine... speaking from experience.

Anyways...
CSD is on track right now, many new recruits, etc, server = big.

we'll be rollin' in no time boys.

Aww, Blitz, I figure you're one of our top guns for sure!

I want to do a TWL ladder or something with recreational in mind, I'm not antsing over CAL play one bit. Practices optional even. It depends on how much interest we have and how serious or unserious people want to be. I'm good either way. I don't have the time to take it uber-serious, but at the same time I'd like a weekly match just as I play a weekly roller hockey game.

So I don't care what Blitz says, he's in. :P
As I said before, June is my soonest availability for more regular gaming sessions.

LOL!! Thx foursci....  My problem with my own "skill" is that I am grossly inconsistent (much like my golf game IRL).  I had a good weekend and it put me at the top of the stats page, but I doubt that I will stay there for too terribly long....  Impolite alone can school me pretty good when he's not havin a bad night (or weekend, as the case wuz more recently...).

I guess I wouldn't mind a little "recreational" league play....  I'm not big on the idea of competitive for my own plans, again from a consistency standpoint, but "recreational" could be interesting....

Yay! That's the spirit.

I recall a few weeks ago we played together and I said, "Wow, Blitz. When'd you get so good?"

There's been plenty of players not yet mentioned that are top notch in sK. And everyone else is definitely on par... we're not together for skill, but we generally everyone's between average and excellent. 5 average guys can do decent in a ladder, so any 5 in CSD is good in my book!

To push the topic elsewhere, I gotta say the best thing about playing with my clanmates is that I can use any non-rifle and consistently expect them to buy "fun guns" as well.

Oh and 2 of the AWP maps don't seem to work...one of them had a '$' in the name (server lost connection for minutes) and the other didn't let people join CT.

Yes, I noticed and will be pulling them. Thanks for the heads up. Do you by chance remember the name of the other one? I played it the other day and has to use admin to move to ct side.

Quote"Wow, Blitz. When'd you get so good?"
I remember that.....and I think that was right about the time I stopped spending so much time in SWG and came back to my beloved CS.

It is probably that noob luck stuff that I tend to go through upon returning after an extended break from CS.  It'll level off again and my K:D will drop back down to its normal 1.6 or so....  Maybe not tho...playing on my new system seems to have a psychological effect of being more uber cuz my framerates r higher than they used to be....sounds stupid, I know, but think back on the last time u played on a brand new machine.....you feel more capable with newer hardware, whether ur actually any better or not!!

Well, new hardware makes a serious difference. My recent upgrade was from ball mouse and cloth pad to a Logitech MX510 with Func1030 surface, and it made me much better (much smoother sniping and weapon "manipulation").

Back almost 2 yrs ago I went from a laptop to a pretty screamin desktop. That was huge too.

Do another round of weapons restriction training, that sometimes helps. I used to be wicked inconsistent too, either really good or only decent (relatively, that is). Nowadays I am on 90% of the time. The key, to me, is being able to both relax and play, OR focus and play. The difference is, you play surprisingly well when you are having fun, but sometimes you need to give extra focus to break a teamstack, without letting yourself get disappointed.

This happened to me last night, joining a losing CT team (10-2) with Ts awping us out. I went 4-5, slowly saving money, but I eventually finished the map 17-8 (teamscore 14-6). Jeebus helped too. If we just played mad we woulda been owned, but I think he and I recognized the challenge and played serious without being emotional.

As for gross inconsistency regardless of situation, just have more fun!

I'm in a similar situation as Blitz - Happy to help in practices, even happy to play in matches when needed, but I can't commit to a regular schedule.  CS is my playtime.  My time to go and splatter someones skull contents all over a wall, because they seem to object for some reaso when I try it in real life.  CS doesn't have a very high priority for me.  So, league play is a great idea and I will be happy to help SK as a whole get there, but I don't plan on doing it regularly myself.

I certainly have enjoyed seeing more skers online recently.  It's a lot more fun playing with people you have a good history with and can joke around with.

Putting this thread back on track...
Bots. I have seen about 2 bots on each team, and I wonder, how are our bots laid out?   Do they automatically drop as humans join? I recommend this highly, a lot of players that connect ask for the bots to be removed when we are doing 5 vs 5 with 2 bots on each team.

glad to see sK's gotta source server now, was in there earlier.

but, in my case when playing i was on a team with only one live person and 5 live players on the other  team....hahah stackness for real!! but all in all the server is nice, even has some custom maps i havent played on before.

it was cool playin with fudd and mr pink!!!

Wuz playin like this a couple days ago (with me being the one with the bots)....  Can be a bit frustrating, but it does make for productive practice, since the teams quickly become 4 or 5 on 1....

Good to see that ur playin!! Haven't seen ya for awhile.....  I look forward to giving you an easy target sometime soon....

I like the current map rotaion.  I do wish that we could get a list of all the maps that the server has.  I also like the Assault map, and Bri Rock's map..

I have a question about the bots though.  Do admins have the abuility to controle the bote (ie kick and weapon use)?  I have been playing late at night with Fudd and people were complaining.  Also we cannot play with pistoles only or shotties only if the admins cannot controle what the bots use.

Pay attention Pink. at the top of this section is a pinned thread called CS:Source Maplist . Link here ---> http://www.shadow-knight.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=142 (http://www.shadow-knight.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=142) so ya don't get lost.

As far as the bots. Weapons can only be controlled through a config file. Basically, there is no way to change what they can use on the fly. You can kick them, however,  once they are in the server, they stay. They only reason they leave is to give up thier spot to another player untill you shut them off completely.

I have added a command to the admin menu under the rcon section. It is called "turn bots off" It will set mp_allowNPCs to 0. After that, kick all the bots and they should stay off. It's a little buggy but you can restart the map if you have to. Keep the feedback coming.

Any future admin items or changes need to be posted in the members CSD section. This thread was never supposed to go past the very first post and it all of a sudden went to several pages.  :D  Thanks for the feedback, I can't make the server better without it.
