HI all, I just thought I'd ask all to help me because I might buy a laptop computer very soon. I dont want to spend more than 1400 bux and I would use it mainly for work. Wordprocesing, and some multimedia. I dont know if id use it for gaming because it would be more expensive. Anyone bought one recently?...any ideas whats a good deal? anyone wanna give me theirs?:P

couple of guys here at work just bought some nice units from Dell for about 1500.  And they would work quite well for gaming, as they're equipped with the 9700pro mobile graphics adapter....  i'd recommend that u watch the dell website for their periodic sales...can find some pretty good stuff on occasion...

yep I have been searching. Whats a recomended vid-card for a laptop that will support ftp gaming? I somewhat know about desktops but im lost for notebooks...

I'd suggest looking at the Dell outlet store and picking up a refurb laptop.  Dell gives full new-system warranties to the refurbs, so you don't have additional risk and they are usually a lot cheaper.  Take a look at the Inspiron 9100's.  You can get one with a Radeon 9700 in it for under 1400 and they are running some decent deals at the moment.  For instance:

System ID EJE0T31E
$1,289.00
Inspiron 9100
P4-3200
Windows® XP Home
15.4" screen
40 GB 5400RPM HDD
1 GB RAM
CDRW
64 MB  Radeon 9700 mobility

And they have a offer going right now that gives $100 off notebooks between $900 and $1349 so it would really be $1189.  Notebooks $1350 to $1599 have $150 off if you wanted to look a little higher.

I really wouldn't look at laptops other than Dell - their warranty rocks.

My company had a bad experience dealing with Dell. Pricewise though, Impolite's quote is excellent.

For a great deal, go there. For a solid laptop get an IBM Thinkpad. I had one for 4.5 years and even though it never cranked much at games, it was excellent otherwise. I dropped it down the stairs quite hard and it lasted very well. They had a $1300 manager's special that included 3 year warranty with next day on-site support, but I can't find it again today. The T-series is my favorite in particular, and if I had the money, I'd buy one right now.

I recommend against HP and Compaq. They supposedly have excellent service, but I've seen 3 dead ones in the past year alone.
