I don't personally believe that anyone in the clan besides maybe Bri Rock and possibly foursci are CAL-level material.  We got our asses handed to us most of the time in TWL last year.

I'm not too big on the whole league play thing.  I play for enjoyment/recreation and have little interest in stressing over competitive play.  Nor do I have the time to dedicate to practices and would likely not be able to commit to regular "serious" practice schedules.  This, however, is not to say that I wouldn't be more than happy to assist any team we put together practice anytime I can.  If we get enough people interested and capable of that level of play, I say, sure, why not...

My 2 cents....

One thing, I think we need to throttle back a little. It's good to get excited and plan for the future, but one thing at a time. We can't go from a dead division, straight into CAL-O. We need to set goals, realistic goals. I consider CAL-O a long term goal. I say shoot for it sometime in the mid summer when most people don't have school interfering.

Set some short term goals. Such as

1) Identify regular/consistent players

2) Conduct organized "team building" play sessions.

3) Schedule certain nights to be "de_dust" night or whatever map. Then take time and learn all the maps secrets. i.e. great sniper/counter sniper spots, kill box areas.

4) Bitch, moan, gripe, and complain about one another until it is finally out of everyone's system and won't interfere with team building from then on. (Inner fighting is a normal part of the team building process)

5) Find what works for your team and stick to it. Not all tactics work for all teams.

Once you get some of these short term goals met you will be on track to meet and accomplish the long term goals on schedule.

Yes of course I don't expect us to be ready for league play RIGHT AWAY.. but CAL-O is a very beginner league, and as long as you're a moderate skilled player (ie: 99% of us would be able to compete) we'd do fine... speaking from experience.

Anyways...
CSD is on track right now, many new recruits, etc, server = big.

we'll be rollin' in no time boys.

Aww, Blitz, I figure you're one of our top guns for sure!

I want to do a TWL ladder or something with recreational in mind, I'm not antsing over CAL play one bit. Practices optional even. It depends on how much interest we have and how serious or unserious people want to be. I'm good either way. I don't have the time to take it uber-serious, but at the same time I'd like a weekly match just as I play a weekly roller hockey game.

So I don't care what Blitz says, he's in. :P
As I said before, June is my soonest availability for more regular gaming sessions.

LOL!! Thx foursci....  My problem with my own "skill" is that I am grossly inconsistent (much like my golf game IRL).  I had a good weekend and it put me at the top of the stats page, but I doubt that I will stay there for too terribly long....  Impolite alone can school me pretty good when he's not havin a bad night (or weekend, as the case wuz more recently...).

I guess I wouldn't mind a little "recreational" league play....  I'm not big on the idea of competitive for my own plans, again from a consistency standpoint, but "recreational" could be interesting....

Blitz

FourScience

Yay! That's the spirit.

I recall a few weeks ago we played together and I said, "Wow, Blitz. When'd you get so good?"

There's been plenty of players not yet mentioned that are top notch in sK. And everyone else is definitely on par... we're not together for skill, but we generally everyone's between average and excellent. 5 average guys can do decent in a ladder, so any 5 in CSD is good in my book!

To push the topic elsewhere, I gotta say the best thing about playing with my clanmates is that I can use any non-rifle and consistently expect them to buy "fun guns" as well.

Oh and 2 of the AWP maps don't seem to work...one of them had a '$' in the name (server lost connection for minutes) and the other didn't let people join CT.

Yes, I noticed and will be pulling them. Thanks for the heads up. Do you by chance remember the name of the other one? I played it the other day and has to use admin to move to ct side.

I remember that.....and I think that was right about the time I stopped spending so much time in SWG and came back to my beloved CS.

It is probably that noob luck stuff that I tend to go through upon returning after an extended break from CS.  It'll level off again and my K:D will drop back down to its normal 1.6 or so....  Maybe not tho...playing on my new system seems to have a psychological effect of being more uber cuz my framerates r higher than they used to be....sounds stupid, I know, but think back on the last time u played on a brand new machine.....you feel more capable with newer hardware, whether ur actually any better or not!!

Blitz

FourScience

Well, new hardware makes a serious difference. My recent upgrade was from ball mouse and cloth pad to a Logitech MX510 with Func1030 surface, and it made me much better (much smoother sniping and weapon "manipulation").

Back almost 2 yrs ago I went from a laptop to a pretty screamin desktop. That was huge too.

Do another round of weapons restriction training, that sometimes helps. I used to be wicked inconsistent too, either really good or only decent (relatively, that is). Nowadays I am on 90% of the time. The key, to me, is being able to both relax and play, OR focus and play. The difference is, you play surprisingly well when you are having fun, but sometimes you need to give extra focus to break a teamstack, without letting yourself get disappointed.

This happened to me last night, joining a losing CT team (10-2) with Ts awping us out. I went 4-5, slowly saving money, but I eventually finished the map 17-8 (teamscore 14-6). Jeebus helped too. If we just played mad we woulda been owned, but I think he and I recognized the challenge and played serious without being emotional.

As for gross inconsistency regardless of situation, just have more fun!

Impolite

I'm in a similar situation as Blitz - Happy to help in practices, even happy to play in matches when needed, but I can't commit to a regular schedule.  CS is my playtime.  My time to go and splatter someones skull contents all over a wall, because they seem to object for some reaso when I try it in real life.  CS doesn't have a very high priority for me.  So, league play is a great idea and I will be happy to help SK as a whole get there, but I don't plan on doing it regularly myself.

I certainly have enjoyed seeing more skers online recently.  It's a lot more fun playing with people you have a good history with and can joke around with.

FourScience

Putting this thread back on track...
Bots. I have seen about 2 bots on each team, and I wonder, how are our bots laid out?   Do they automatically drop as humans join? I recommend this highly, a lot of players that connect ask for the bots to be removed when we are doing 5 vs 5 with 2 bots on each team.

fzerock904

glad to see sK's gotta source server now, was in there earlier.

only gripe i had was having the bots in........sure people leave and a bot would give some aid

but, in my case when playing i was on a team with only one live person and 5 live players on the other  team....hahah stackness for real!! but all in all the server is nice, even has some custom maps i havent played on before.

it was cool playin with fudd and mr pink!!!
hope to see the rest of you guys in there soon

Wuz playin like this a couple days ago (with me being the one with the bots)....  Can be a bit frustrating, but it does make for productive practice, since the teams quickly become 4 or 5 on 1....

Good to see that ur playin!! Haven't seen ya for awhile.....  I look forward to giving you an easy target sometime soon....
